Microsoft planning to add an AI chatbot to Xbox, here is what it is being trained to do
Microsoft has been at the
forefront of the AI race, introducing a slew of AI products in the past year.
From significant investments in OpenAI to the launch of the innovative Bing AI
and AI-powered laptops, the company is fully committed to advancing this
emerging technology. Now, according to recent reports, Microsoft is set to
integrate an AI chatbot into its gaming console, Xbox. This AI tool is poised
to provide support for various inquiries and may eventually handle gaming
refunds, as indicated by a statement to The Verge.
As per The Verge's report,
Microsoft is preparing to revolutionize Xbox customer support by introducing an
AI-powered chatbot, named the Xbox Support Virtual Agent. This virtual
assistant is designed to elevate the support experience by delivering prompt
and effective responses to user queries.
Sources familiar with
Microsoft's plans, cited by The Verge, reveal that the chatbot, equipped with
natural language processing capabilities, is currently undergoing testing.
Described as an "embodied AI character," it engages with users in a personalized
manner, aiming to offer more tailored interactions. The chatbot will tap into
Microsoft's extensive support documentation for the Xbox network and ecosystem,
ensuring accuracy and helpfulness across a wide range of inquiries.
Haiyan Zhang, General Manager
of Gaming AI at Xbox, confirmed the existence of the chatbot, emphasizing its
potential to streamline support tasks. "We are testing an Xbox Support
Virtual Agent, an internal prototype of an animated character that can query
Xbox Support topics with voice or text," Zhang informed The Verge.
The Xbox Support Virtual Agent
seeks to address various customer support needs, from troubleshooting hardware
issues to aiding in subscription management. It may even facilitate game
refunds directly through Microsoft's support website.
Specific details regarding the
rollout of the Xbox AI chatbot remain undisclosed, with expectations for
further updates in the future.
Meanwhile, Microsoft continues
to ramp up its AI initiatives. The tech giant recently established a dedicated
AI division, signaling a heightened focus on generative AI. Notably, Mustafa
Suleyman, co-founder of Google DeepMind, was appointed to lead this new
division. Suleyman, who previously served as the head of applied AI at
DeepMind, shared the news on his X handle.
Expressing his excitement to
join Microsoft, Suleyman announced that several employees from his startup,
InflectionAI, including co-founder Karen Simonyan, would also be joining the
team. He mentioned that InflectionAI would appoint a new CEO and reflected on
the incredible journey with the startup, indicating that this is just the
beginning.
In response, Microsoft CEO
Satya Nadella welcomed Suleyman via a post on X, expressing his enthusiasm for
Suleyman to lead Microsoft AI.
By incorporating an AI chatbot
into Xbox customer support and bolstering its AI division, Microsoft continues
to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and enhancing user experiences
across its platforms.
